Two Cum Laude graduates mark CCDI 14th Commencement Exercises

Jefferson Idago and Kathrine Lapayag were honored Cum Laude in Bachelor of Science in Computer Science as CCDI concluded the 14th Commencement Exercises last April 9, 2011 in Sorsogon Provincial Gymnasium, Sorsogon City.


The academic community and the parents congratulated the two leading students and the rest of the graduates who manifested excellent performance in their education pursuit.

Jefferson Idago of Gubat, Sorsogon had a general weighted average of a 1.511. He was also given Academic Excellence Award, and Proficiency Awards in Object-Oriented Programming, C-Language, Database Management and Data Encoding. Idago is also a recipient of Best in Senior Project for developing an Automated Voting System of the Supreme Student Government of CCDI-Sorsogon City.


Other Cum Laude is Kathrine Lapayag, one of the Ten Outstanding Students of Bicol and a finalist of the Ten Outstanding Students in the Philippines –Region 5. She garnered an average weighted average of 1.6. She is also a recipient of Academic Excellence Award, Gov. Felix R. Alfelor, Sr. Leadership Award and Gov. Felix R. Alfelor, Sr. Service Excellence Award. She was also awarded as Proficient in Language and Literature, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities.


The commencement speaker, Engr. Elma E. Naz, Education Supervisor II for Information Technology Education of the Commission on Higher Education stressed the importance of I.T. graduates in the fast changing time. She encouraged the graduates to work here instead of venturing their future abroad. She also congratulated the graduates for their outstanding achievements in academics, cultural and sports.


Dr. Ricardo Detecio, TESD Education Specialist of Sorsogon elaborates the importance of having highly-skilled I.T. practitioners to meet the competitive demand here and abroad. He expressed his congratulations to CCDI being the province’ Assessment Center for Programming.


“This year marks a remarkable performance of the graduate, 100% of the technicians are all holders of National Competency Certificates and so with the Programming graduates. Some of this year’s graduates in BS Information Technology and BS Computer Science were already absorbed by the companies they had on-the-job training.” According to Mr. Edgar Balasta, school Administrator informed us.


Mr. Edward Reyes, Academic Affairs head, said that the office of the academics is giving due importance to the competence and expertise of the professors and trainers. Completion of post-graduate studies in information technology is one of the primary concerns of the institution. Second, maintaining an excellent performance in TESDA assessment for its courses is also the concentration of the tech-voc department.


Meanwhile, the office of the student services has created a student development program (SDP) aimed at developing the holistic being of the students. CCDI’s goal is not only to excel in I.T. but to involve the students in the realm of life through integrating significant activities like community outreach program, leadership training and youth related activities. Manifested in this program is CCDI’s various achievement in extra-curricular and sports. Through this program, the institution has produced two Outstanding Students in Bicol Region namely, Melvin John Frivaldo and Kathrine Lapayag (TOSP-RV Finalist).


The branch has also created CCDI Wildcats Basketball, Champion in Philippine Collegiate Champions League 2011 –South Luzon and PRISAA Region 5 Champion in 2010 and 3-feat champion in Basketball Inter-Collegiate Championship of Sorsogon.
