The BFHED has finally concluded to have PRISAA’s CCDI Wildcats as the official representative of the Bicol Region in the CHED National Games which will be held on February 22 – 28, 2010 in Metro Manila.
Such conclusion has been made after the SCUAA Champion – Bicol University and the LCUAA conceded to challenge the PRISAA champion in their supposedly triangular meet scheduled earlier.
CCDI Wildcats representing PRISAA Sorsogon has undergone series of elimination before they made it to the national games.
The team was declared PRISAA Champion 2009 of Basketball (men) in Region 5 after it outshined the Camarines Sur selection team (Ateneo - UNC – USI – NCF)l, Albay-Legazpi (AUL – DWCL) and the Camarines Norte Team held on December 4 – 7, 2009 in Daet, Camarines Norte.
In the provincial level, the team has also dominated the championship match against ACI in its PRISAA Provincial Meet 2009 held last November 26 – 28, 2009 in ACI Gym, Sorsogon City.
It has been noted that the Wildcats was the 1st Runner-up of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League, South Luzon Area for the year 2009. It has outshined the collegiate champions of Albay (Bicol College & Amado Cope College) and Quezon (Calayan College) in University of Nueva Caceres, Naga City last October 8 – 10, 2009.
CCDI Wildcats is also a back to back champion of the coveted BICCS (Basketball Intercollegiate Championship of Sorsogon) for 2008 and 2009.
Bicol Team in basketball having CCDI Sorsogon as the flag bearer is composed of 15 athletes in which nine of the them are from CCDI Sorsogon Wildcats team and six selected athletes from SIT Bulan, UNC, NCF, USI and DWCL.
Wildcats head coach, Ron Ryan Jalmanzar shall take the biggest challenge in his career of bringing the team to the top. It has been noted that team Bicol represented by UNC has landed bronze in PRISAA National Games 2009 hosted by Naga City.
Having CCDI Wildcats to represent Bicol in National Games is the first of Sorsogon in collegiate history.. It is in this reason that the LGU, PRISAA and the people of Sorsogon is taking pride of this opportunity.
Other than basketball, the officials of the Bicol Foundation for Higher Education in its meeting held last January 7, 2009 in MPCF, Rawis Legazpi City has finalized and approved 445 members of Bicol delegation composed of 351 athletes and coaches and 71 performers and coaches for cultural and academic delegation.
CCDI will also represent dance sports for the second time. Joan Janoras and Haber Tarrasan did make to be Bicol’s entry in Latin dance (cha-cha, jive and rumba).
This year’s CHED National Games is believed to be the biggest collegiate league of the decade with more or less eight thousand athletes from 17 regions of the country. Best athletes from the combined strength of three sports associations; Private School Athletic Association, State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association and the Local Colleges and Universities Athletic Association have joined their forces to form a stronger delegation from each region. Sec. Emmanuel Angeles, Chairman of CHED has initiated this year’s game.
Last CHED National Games was held in April, 2004 in Bacolod City. Yet, it was only focused on sports competition.
This year’s national game has included academic and cultural competition. The sports events to be competed are baseball, basketball, football, sepak takraw volleyball, swimming, athletics, badminton, lawn tennis, table tennis, chess, dance sports, karate-do and taekwondo. Boxing and beach volleyball are recently included in the competition.
